PROPOSED TRANSFER OF WIRL ESS SERVICE3
IN HONG KONG TO I PRIA AND INTERNATIONAL
COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED.
(1.C.C. Papers 1409, 1411, 1420, 1421
and 1425).

THE COMMITTEE had under consideration copies of correspondence between the Colonial Office and Imperial and International Communications Dimited, telegrams between the Colonial Office and the Government of Hong Kong and letters from the Admiralty, all regarding the transfer of wireless communications from Hong Kong to Imperial and International Communications Limited.
(I.C.C. 1409, 1411, 1420, 1421 and 1425).
SIR PHILIF CUNLIFFE-LISTER said that it appeared that these negotiations were reaching a satisfactory conclusion, and that the Company were substantially
agreeing to provide the requirements of the Hong Kong
Government, and asked members of the Committee if they
had any comments to make.
CAPTAIN MURRAY pointed out that the agreement did
not include the erection of a high power station at
the cost of £400,000. as had originally been asked for,
but in view of the financial circumstances of the Company
it was impossible to press this at the moment.
MR. VERNON stated that some persuasive methods
were being employed to get the Hong Kong Government to
agree to the Company's proposal, as the high power
station was not forthcoming.
61
The Hong Kong Government had hoped to increase their revenue by providing new services and continuing to workstations
the
as
a government concern, and in view of the fact that
the Company were not now to erect the high power station
they might not be so keen on the Company taking oVEI.
